COX Automotive — Next Inspect

A mobile application that scans vehicles with AI to suggest damage-repair costs, handed over from an external vendor. I was brought in as the React Native expert to take the project in-house with an internal team of ReactJS developers — onboarding them into React Native and enabling them to run the product without the vendor.

Responsibilities

  • Onboarded an internal team of ReactJS developers into React Native: built a teaching plan that started from the React-to-React-Native differences, then walked the team through the project feature by feature.
  • Served as the point of inheritance for the project from the vendor — attending handover meetings and mapping out the project's structure so the work could move in-house.
  • Delegated and monitored tasks across the team and unblocked developers as they ramped, until they could run the project independently of the vendor.
  • Produced project flow diagrams and documentation to share the system's structure with a team that hadn't worked in the codebase before.
  • Built a React Native upgrade plan and presented it to the client, laying out the benefits and the blockers caused by the outdated framework version in use.
  • Owned architectural decisions and contributed hands-on feature work and bug fixes where needed.
