AION TempShield

A mobile application for patients undergoing cancer therapy, paired with the TempShield device to monitor body temperature over Bluetooth and surface concerning changes as early as possible — a context where a delayed or missed reading can have serious, even life-threatening consequences for the patient. I inherited the app from a previous team as one of two mobile engineers and owned the work that the product most depended on: making that connectivity reliable.

Responsibilities

• Drove the reliability overhaul of the app's BLE connectivity — the feature the entire product hinges on, since a patient's temperature changes must reach their doctor as early as possible. Spent roughly two to three months on research and implementation to make Bluetooth monitoring stable, including on low-end Android devices where it had been failing.
• Rebuilt the connectivity core: re-architected the BLE logic so existing functionality kept working against a new foundation, and moved the monitoring algorithm out of the app into AWS Lambda functions — letting the dedicated algorithm team iterate on it independently, without shipping an app release.
• Worked closely with the architect, QA, and backend engineers throughout the rebuild to keep this safety-critical path correct end to end.
• Originally joined as project manager; with only one mobile engineer on the team, stepped in as the second engineer while continuing to run delivery — leading Scrum ceremonies, interfacing with the business, and delegating across mobile, web, backend, and architecture.
• Turned business requests into research, proofs of concept, and delegated tasks, and sat on the front line for user-reported issues — proposing UX and implementation approaches that balanced shipping quickly with staying extensible.
• Onboarded the algorithm team's lead into Scrum from scratch, supporting them until they could run their team independently.
• Owned application releases across the App Store and Google Play.
